Identity theft occurs when an individual's or company's personal or confidential information is obtained by another person without their knowledge in order to create a new false identity. Identity theft is the first step to perpetrating a criminal activity whereby criminals may use personal information to fraudulently obtain credit, goods or other services.; this is know as identity fraud. Identity fraud can involve setting up a bank account in someone else's name, applying for a credit card or stealing a person's personality wholesale in order to fraudulently obtain goods, services, or other financial advantage.

Partnership Investment Fund (PIF) joins Smarter Enterprise 2006!

Partnership Investment Fund (PIF) joins Smarter Enterprise 2006!

1. PIF is a £37m Objective 2 Fund for SME's and Social Enterprises in West, North and East Yorkshire and the Humber

2. PIF is a commercial fund not a grant provider.

3. PIF is essentially providing gap finance. It will consider commercially viable applications, where the business has either exhausted other commercial funding or been unable raise all the funds they need.

4. Lending will take place over the next two years, with applications being accepted up to 31 December 2008

5. The funds have and aftercare scheme which is funded up to 31 March 2007. This includes a contribution toward the costs of mentoring for the first year of the loan, (Monay with Management), and interest rate rebates of between 40% and 75%.

6. Funding is focussed on businesses providing a non local service or trading outside local markets. Certain sectors are specifically excluded, including retailing, argriculture, first stage food processing, some transport and public services including schools and hospitals.
